Terrain Height-mapping &
Object Reconnaissance

Power 7, through THOR™, (Terrain Height-mapping and Object Reconnaissance) delivers 3D interactive mapping and exploration executables that are fully immersive within a virtual environment. THOR™ has the ability to employ the best available Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), imagery, point clouds, and additional datasets to create georeferenced, orthorectified, accurate, interactive, and transferable maps.
THOR™ is a fully transferable file without the need for paid or proprietary third-party software. THOR™ has on-screen menus within a user-friendly UI for a smooth viewing and user experience, intuitive navigation, and real-time data extraction. Each product follows strict internal QA/QC protocols to assure a high degree of precision and accuracy.

THOR™ packages are self-contained within an .exe file that contain both the program and the data in one package. Files are kept small with a relatively low processing overhead of 3.5GB, and can be run on a wide variety of devices, from handheld phones, to laptops, and desktops. THOR™ can run on Android, HoloLens, HTML5, iOS, Linux, Lumin, tvOS, Windows (32-bit) & (64-bit). Existing familiarity with game engines has been leveraged in the creation of the UI and HUD to allow for intuitive navigation, both in-map, and within the UI. A variety of inputs/outputs (e.g., controllers, mouse & keyboard, joysticks, and displays) may also be used. THOR™ has been optimized to take advantage of all connected hardware and does not require an internet connection.

Features & Capabilities

  • Blends the ease and appeal of Google Earth with the authority and integrity of GIS.

  • Brings precise, accurate, and georeferenced maps to the broader Earth-science community, facilitating the exploration of Earth and other planets through an interactive and immersive lens

  • Employs the best available Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), Digital Surface Models (DSMs), imagery, point clouds, and additional datasets to create georeferenced, orthorectified, accurate, interactive, and transferable maps without the need for paid or proprietary software by the client.

  • Uses any 2D or 3D map generated by any existing mapping platform, as well as maps sourced direct from satellite databases to generate a premium 3D map product

  • Operates within a tiered solutions scheme where the client has full control over the final map product, including overlays, within limits of data availability. All renderings are tailored to meet a client’s specific requirements to enhance the final map product.

Through Power 7, THOR delivers 3D interactive mapping and exploration executables that are fully immersive within a virtual environment. Each product follows strict QA/QC protocols to assure the same accuracy*, precision, and integrity as the source data.

Technical Details

Waypoints & Text

  • Users can place high-visibility waypoints (pins) to mark locations of interest and spawn customizable text to place at a given location.

Line Segments

  • Users can draw line segments along a user selected AB path for lineament mapping. These lines cut through the landscape.

Elevation Profiles

  • Users can extract elevation profiles from the landscape between any two points

Pre-Rendered Cross Sections

  • A pre-rendered 2D cross sections containing relevant information can be placed in its proper location beneath the map to provide better insight into subterranean composition. This 2D cross-section is viewable from beneath the map and can be moved vertically above the landscape on command to aid in conceptual understanding.

Measurements

  • Planar horizontal distance, vector distance, heading, relief, and orientation (0-360 degrees savable with quadrant method notation flashing on screen) can be measured between any two locations.

  • All measurements can attach themselves to lines, toggled on and off by the user.

Walking / Flying

  • Users can switch between a first-person walking and flying modes to better understand the data and terrain provided. Relative speed of the “flying” mode can be scaled.

Driving

  • Users can enter a driving mode where you can move across the terrain in a buggy.

Realtime Data Display within HUD

  • Sliding compass

  • Rotational compass

  • Mini-map within rotational compass showing top-down view of user location

  • Forward looking direction in degrees

  • Pitch in degrees

  • Latitude and Longitude

  • Rangefinder for center crosshair

  • Altitude (m) and Elevation (m)

  • Frames per second “FPS”

  • Frame render latency (ms)

  • Field of view “FOV”

  • Component X velocity (m/s)

  • Component Y velocity (m/s)

  • Component Z velocity (m/s)

  • Speed in knots (kn)

Built-in Overlays

  • Overlays such as heatmaps or satellite imagery can be custom built or supplied to be overlaid atop any section of terrain upon request.

Saving / Loading

  • The locations and metadata of waypoints, text, lines, and other placed objects can be saved, loaded, and transferred between authorized

Viewshed Analysis Tools

  • Calculates all areas within line-of-site for locations selectable by the user and then color codes the areas according to visibility. Point cloud with associated sight lines can be toggled.

  • Displays line-of-sight within a 2D plane or 3D space depending on use case

  • Inserts colored light sources to aid in line-of-sight signal mapping. Colors mix to show areas of signal overlap.

Accuracy

  • Elevation data imported to THOR™ in an 8-bit or 16-bit format will maintain all values inherent in the source file while 32-bit files will maintain an accuracy of ~1 millimeter per 65 meters of vertical relief. Accuracy scales linearly. All point cloud files maintain full accuracy.

Flood Mapping

  • Realistic water can be built into the landscape to accurately reflect flooding at various stages. Water effects are built to spec and are dynamic (index of refraction, reflections, color, waves mechanics, etc.).

Projected Overlays

  • Overlays available on command by the user include but are not limited to: grayscale or colored Fresnel; full or partial wireframe; single, dual, or multicolor gradient heightmaps; static or dynamically lit polygonal mesh; all flat surfaces highlighted; fog; and drivable terrain via slope analysis.

DEM Data Sources

  • Elevation data derived from ground based and aerial LIDAR, drones, manually built DEMs, satellite derived DTMs and DSMs, side-scan sonar, and bathymetric data.

  • All spatial resolutions work. Sub-millimeter to kilometer resolutions have been tested.

Point Cloud Data Sources

  • Airborne LIDAR, Terrestrial Laser Scanner, Structure from Motion / Photogrammetry. Up to 1 trillion points have been proven to simultaneously render within the same scene from a photogrammetric point cloud.

  • All spatial densities work.

Miscellaneous

  • Lighting is built to spec for the user for the specific use case. Multiple light sources and shadows are optional.

  • Landscapes can be textured with any virtual material upon request.

  • Maps are built to be semitransparent or opaque when viewing from beneath the map.

  • Gravity and drag coefficients are built to spec within the map.

  • A keyboard and mouse or controller can be used, or both.

  • Map boundaries can be custom built by our team, or the map can be boundless.

  • Atmospheric and fog effects can be custom built by our team.

  • Full integration of 3D scanned assets. All scanned assets can be processed for import to THOR™.
